14 You cry out, “Why doesn’t the Lord accept my worship?” I’ll tell you why! Because the Lord witnessed the vows you and your wife made when you were young. But you have been unfaithful to her, though she remained your faithful partner, the wife of your marriage vows. 14 你們喊叫說：「上主為甚麼不悅納我的敬拜？」讓我告訴你們原因吧！因為上主見證了你和妻子年輕時所起的誓；雖然她始終作你忠貞不渝的配偶，作你婚約的妻子，你卻對她不忠。
15 Didn’t the Lord make you one with your wife? In body and spirit you are his. And what does he want? Godly children from your union. So guard your heart; remain loyal to the wife of your youth. 15 上主不是使你和妻子成為一體嗎？你們的身體和靈魂都屬於他。他想要的是甚麼呢？是從你們的結合所生出的敬虔兒女。所以，要謹守你們的心，對年輕時所娶的妻子保持忠貞。
16 “For I hate divorce!” says the Lord, the God of Israel. “To divorce your wife is to overwhelm her with cruelty,” says the Lord of Heaven’s Armies. “So guard your heart; do not be unfaithful to your wife.” 16 上主以色列的上帝說：「因為我憎惡休妻！休妻就是殘酷地打擊她。因此你們要謹守自己的心，不可對你們的妻子不忠。」這是天軍的上主說的。


加插的短句直接指向讀者，顯示使者代表上主與子民爭訟，充滿情感張力，並非只是一般解答諮詢的情境。
NLT把一般譯為「以詭詐待她」 的片語譯得更明白，用明顯具婚盟語境的字詞 "unfaithful"和"loyal"表達此處的重點是呼籲人要忠於婚約，不可惡待自己年輕時所娶的妻子。
